Character Creation
Permitted Sources
- Permitted Sources
- The permitted sources list is exclusive: Third-party and homebrew builds are not permitted.
Roll20’s Character Builder and Character Sheet
- Characters must be fully built and run using Roll20’s 2024 character sheet for 5e.
- All of the permitted sources will be accessible for you to use from within our Roll20 game room.
Setting Information
- Phandelver’s Red Hand is set primarily in the Sword Coast region of Faerûn in the Forgotten Realms, but it also draws on materials from Greyhawk and Midgard.
Magic and Gods
- Phandelver’s Red Hand begins in a fairly low-magic setting. Everyone in the game world knows that magic works and that the gods exist, but direct experiences with them are rare.
Species
- Common species include humans, elves, dwarves, halflings, and gnomes. These species have long histories together, and their cultures are mainstream.
- Less common are goliaths, dragonborn, aasimar, and tieflings.
- Orcs integrate into other societies only rarely.
- Extremely rare species include aarakocra, changelings, firbolgs, genasi, githyanki, githzerai, kenku, shifters, tabaxi, and yuan-ti.
Character Guidelines
When creating your character, I recommend that you keep the following considerations in mind:

- What characters are your party members building?
- How might your character discover common cause with your party’s other characters?
Impermissible Character Concepts
The following character concepts are not permitted in my games:
- Evil characters
- Parody characters
- Licentious characters
- Racist characters
